The Ozarks Flaggers January 22 ยท 12 days and 160 years ago, federal troops under the command of Union officer Lieutenant Colonel Elias Baldwin of the 8th Missouri Cavalry executed 8 men. Two men, a father and son, William Martin Berry and Hugh Berry. Uncle and cousin to later Arkansas Governor, James H Berry.
Baldwin was arrested and charged with violation of the 6th Article of War for the murder of prisoners of war, however no witnesses came forward or attended his trial in Springfield Missouri which led to all charges to be dropped. One of many crimes the Federals committee against the people of Arkansas.
